Job Description:

Description As Optical Payload Subsystem Engineer, provide payload engineering and technical assistance within a Government Program Office.-- Apply engineering knowledge to support the design, manufacturing, and testing of advanced optical payload components, assemblies, and subsystems.-- Initial responsibilities will focus on advanced focal plane and payload design across a broad spectrum of optical remote sensing phenomenologies.-- Duties may adjust as the payload and spacecraft progress through design, development, integration, and test towards launch. Key duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Work in an interactive team environment with Government customer leads, payload developers, and other subject matter experts.Apply engineering knowledge to support the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of advanced optical payload components, assemblies, and subsystems.Assist in requirements development, and support requirements flow-down and traceability.-- Assist with ensuring compliance to interfaces and standards, or ensure appropriate deviations/waivers are in place.Evaluate system, subsystem and unit level design, as necessary, to determine if the design is adequate to meet program requirements and cost effective.Assess subsystem technical performance within cost and schedule constraints.-- Identify risks to program plans and schedules, and support development of corrective action plans.Participate in Failure Review Boards (FRBs) to troubleshoot and resolve anomalies and test failures.-- Develop mitigation plans and identify impacts to subsystems and spacecraft performance.Confirm requirements verification by evaluating unit, subsystem, and vehicle performance and environmental test data, analysis, and inspection results.Assist in preparation of RFP documentation (SOWs, CDRLs, specifications, etc.) and conduct ECP technical evaluations.Travel within the U.S. approximately once a month for approximately 4 days per trip.*ICAF*ICIXI Qualifications TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and fourteen (14) years or more experience; Masters and twelve (12) years or more experience; PhD or JD and nine (9) years or more experience. BS in Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or similar technical discipline5 years of engineering experience with satellite payload systems 5 years of System acquisition experience, specifically writing and evaluating requirements, procuring hardware, and monitoring development contractor performanceKnowledge of high fidelity payload sensors concepts and sensor designs, including visible and other sensor phenomenologiesExperience working in a spacecraft System Program Office (SPO) or a satellite development facilityExcellent written and oral communication skillsMust currently possess an active TS/SCI with Polygraph-- Desired Qualifications--MS in Electrical Engineering or other Engineering disciplineExperience with multiple spacecraft programs and a variety of satellite payloadsExperience with early life-cycle engineering activities/milestones, payload & spacecraft integration and test, and Launch and Initialization (L&I) activitiesAble to work effectively with a variety of engineers in different disciplines and organizationsKnowledge of high fidelity multi-spectral imaging concepts, sensor designs, and implementationKnowledge of Signal Processing, Image processing, sampling theory, data compressionKnowledge of Semiconductor fabrication and advanced focal plane fabricationUnderstanding of radiation effects and testing of semi-conductorsKnowledge of CMOS and CCD sensors designs, arrays and operationExperience testing/evaluating sensor performanceKnowledge of electro-optic detectors and sensor performance specificationsKnowledge of Sensor Calibration techniques and approachesKnowledge of Image Quality MetricsExperience in environmental testing of space hardwareKnowledge of contamination standards, sources, and mitigation techniques for ensuring cleanliness of space hardware throughout the lifecycle
