Description SAIC's National Security Group (NSG) has an opening for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide systems engineering and technical advisory (SETA) services to a Government Intelligence Community (IC) customer. The customer is developing the next-generation of space and ground systems architectures, hardware, and software solutions. Working for SAIC in this role, you will be responsible for informing the IC and DOD customers on technical solutions for scientific and engineering opportunities to improve next-generation systems for space, air, and ground Responsibilities include, but are not limited to Oversee design, development, and test of mechanical and optical-mechanical (opto-mech) systems and components, including telescopes, sensors, payloads, optical elements and systems, and thermal systems for aircraft and space satellites. Advise the government on component specifications, tolerances, simulations, and test procedures for mechanical and optical-mechanical (opto-mech) systems and components. Assist the government in developing operational concepts (CONOPS), mission threads, and approaches to employment of mechanical and optical-mechanical systems. Ensure research and development (RD) efforts are planned and conducted on a sound engineering basis including management of technical risks. Provide technical support to customer activities and programmatic processes. Develop documents and briefings to communicate work or study status brief Government and industry, as required. Qualifications Must possess an active TSSCI with CI Polygraph . Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or related disciplines Master's preferred 12 years experience supporting as a Mechanical Engineer for the IC or DoD communities Experience in the design, development, and testing of space-based mechanical and optical-mechanical systems and components. Experience in developing component specifications, tolerances, simulations, and test procedures for mechanical and optical-mechanical systems and components. Effective customer engagement, interpersonal communications, writing, and briefing skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and modeling software. Desired Qualifications PhD in engineering, science, or related disciplines. Expertise in design, analysis, manufacture and testing of optical components, particularly space telescopes Knowledge of systems engineering as applied to satelliteground architectures, spacecraft and payloads Experience using commercial design and modeling tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, PTC Creo (ProENGINEER), and MATLAB. Experience with performing Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) for components, sub-systems, and systems for space-based hardware Experience with design, modeling, or testing of thermal control systems. Experience with DoD or IC RD organizations. Experience with the development of novel materials and processes for the manufacture of space based telescopes.
