The Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Department (DSAID) seeks an Associate Director to lead a diverse team of engineers, data scientists, and programmers with a passion for researching, prototyping, understanding, and building AI and data enabled tools across the space enterprise. We are a growing, innovative, and collaborative department that makes meaningful contributions to National Security Space (AF, NRO, etc.), and Civil and Commercial customers (NASA, MDA, DHS, etc.).

What You'll Be Doing

  • DSAID's customers range from National Security Space (AF, NRO, etc.) to civil (NASA, NOAA, etc.) and commercial (commercial space, autonomous vehicles, etc.) DSAID applies data science and AI knowledge across the space enterprise, to Aerospace enterprise capabilities, and towards corporate workforce development and strategic focus areas
  • The Associate Director will manage teams spanning various disciplines, experience levels, and organizational boundaries.
  • Primary functions include:
    • Provide leadership, planning, and direction of technical office staff and operations.
    • Assign resources, determines staffing needs, and coordinates activities and operations among subordinate units.
    • Communicate and coordinate activities with counterpart organizations, management, and customers across the corporation.
    • Contribute to department strategy, technical vision, and direction.
    • Work with the Director and Section Managers to recruit, hire, mentor, and lead technology experts and developers to provide the corporation with cutting edge data science and machine learning applications and prototypes demonstrating the state-of-the-art in this domain
    • Develop and maintain relationships with program offices
    • Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed

      What You Need to be Successful

      Minimum Requirements:
      • Bachelors degree from an accredited program in Computational Sciences, Data Science, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field(s)
      • Previous experience managing technical staff
      • Software development or programming skills in at least two different programming languages (e.g. Python, R, C/C++), including familiarity with machine learning and deep learning libraries in Python
      • Familiarity with a broad set of supervised, semi-supervised, and unsupervised ML-based solutions to complex problems in business, science, or engineering
      • Demonstrated initiative and excellent leadership skills, with proven ability to build and manage effective development teams
      • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal and working relationships with various levels of corporate staff, peers, management, program offices, customers, and contractors
      • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

        How You Can Stand Out

        It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
        • An advanced degree from an accredited program in Computational Sciences, Data Science, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field(s) (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months)
        • 12 or more years of experience in an engineering discipline
        • Demonstrated ability to efficiently deliver analysis and insights from data that is often large, unstructured, or unprocessed
        • Experience creating effective data visualizations or user interfaces (e.g. matplotlib, seaborn,, dash, tableau, react) and communicating results to technical and nontechnical audiences
        • Experience in software and machine learning development best practices (e.g. code, model, and data set version control, experiment tracking and reproduction)
        • Experience implementing and guiding teams toward software and machine learning development best practices
        • Demonstrated contributions to open source software repositories (github, kaggle, etc)
        • Familiarity deploying ML models within applications or on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.)
        • Active security clearance

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
