Job Description:

Koniag Government Services is seeking a Human Resources/Benefits Assistant to join our growing team. As a federal government contractor, we must comply with President Biden's Executive Order 14042, which requires all of our employees to be fully vaccinated by December 8, 2021.

KGS is in need of a self-motivated and experienced HR/Benefits Assistant to support our busy HR department. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support for the department, assisting with the hiring process, scheduling & conducting new employee orientations, entering a high volume of employment records into our HR database & the FEHB federal database, and maintaining employee files. Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support all internal and external HR related Inquiries and requests
  • Organize, compile, update company personnel records and documentation and maintains the integrity and confidentiality of Human Resource files and records.
  • Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Provide backup coverage to plan, schedule, and conduct new hire orientation and on-boarding activities to assure a smooth transition to the organization.
  • Assists with planning and execution of special events such as organization-wide employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations.
  • Assist in processing employee benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations
  • Answer benefit questions from employees; act as liaison between employees and carriers.
  • Assist with coordinating annual Benefits open enrollment.
  • Process benefits enrollment forms for employees using National Finance Center systems.
  • Assist with creating and reconciling monthly benefit invoices.
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Work collaboratively with all departments in supporting HR programs, policies and procedures, and supporting change progress, process improvements and effectiveness of policy/procedural changes
  • Work with vendors to manage FMLA, STD, and Worker's Compensation.
  • Order office supplies
  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience Requirements
    • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field a plus
    • 2 years prior Human Resources experience
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
    • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications.Working Environment & Conditions
      This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

      This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The work load may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
