Responsibilities Summary Become the leader of the program office team supporting the development of new technologies to enable the next generation of GEOINT capabilities and beyond. The GEOINT Innovations Office's Research and Technology Department provides strategic prioritization and in-depth technical support to the design, build, and test of new technologies to revolutionize space-based capabilities. As the Systems Director of the Research and Technology Department you will take the lead role in Aerospace's support to the NRO/GEOINT/Research and Technology Office. You, your direct team, and the matrix engineering and scientist support available to the office will be responsible for guiding and enabling technology investments, collaborating with other NRO and DoD/IC offices in space R&D, evaluating contractor developments, and ensuring that Aerospace technical capabilities and independent investments reflect the priorities of the NRO/GEOINT mission. Key Functions * Participate in and lead team efforts to prioritize the development of next-generation spaceflight hardware; * Evaluate the mission utility of new technology insertion at the component to architecture levels; * Evaluate the system impact of inserting new technologies / components to identify risks and/or additional technology development needed to ensure successful insertion; * Be familiar with a wide range of GEOINT sensing modalities and have expert knowledge in at least one modality. * Lead direct staff, technical reachback support, and other in-house resources in evaluating the progress of technology investments by the GEOINT customer; * Lead team efforts to develop and evaluate novel processing and exploitation techniques to increase the timeliness and value of information delivered from NRO systems; * Lead reachback support from Aerospace engineering and lab resources to operate and test prototype hardware relevant to the office; * Participate in engagement activities with customer staff, the user community, and with other Aerospace offices; * Be capable of collaboration across the directorate, agency, and the entire national security space enterprise. * Develop, communicate, and represent key technical positions on key customer issues to senior levels of customer and Aerospace leadership; * Operate as the direct interface to customer program leadership; * Provide personnel management functions such as hiring, performance assessments, mentoring and career planning; * Plan, manage, and track department resources; * Provide recurring reporting and other required documentation; * Be able to excel in a fast-paced environment with a small program office team; * Demonstrate high levels of self-motivation to search for, identify, and prioritize technical issues and develop related solutions. Qualifications Required * B.S. in engineering, mathematics, the physical sciences, or a related field. * Demonstrated experience leading teams to address technology development challenges; * A broad range of experience with GEOINT sensing modalities and the technologies required to enable space-based sensing; * Ability to plan and oversee reachback technical support in multiple customer, Aerospace, and contractor locations across the continental United States; * Ability to work closely and collaboratively with Aerospace, government, and SETA personnel; * Ability to flex communication styles to support diverse customer approaches to leadership; * Ability to lead and contribute to the efforts of multi-disciplinary teams; * Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer interface skills; * Strong and flexible written and oral communication skills; * Ability to work in a dynamic environment with quickly changing priorities; * Ability to support moderate travel; * Current and active TS/SCI clearance with SSBI. * This position requires the ability to have and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. Preferred * M.S. or Ph.D. in engineering, mathematics, the physical sciences, or a related field; * 12 or more years of relevant experience; * Working knowledge of Aerospace lab capabilities related to GEOINT technology investment areas; * Working knowledge of Aerospace Engineering Matrix Organization personnel and departments capable of supporting technology development efforts; * Previous experience directing and managing Aerospace Aerospace Engineering Matrix Organization technical efforts; * Previous management experience with a highly technical staff.
