collaboratively with the Director of Classroom and Lab Technologies
and the Learning Space Design Manager - Learning Space Design is
responsible for coordinating and/or implementing classroom design
projects to include new building construction, renovations, and
technology refreshes. Learning spaces can include non-traditional
environments, specialized labs, customized classrooms, and
miscellaneous spaces that are not readily classified as a
traditional classroom environment. With the addition of technology,
digital architecture, and a multitude of various media, these
learning spaces have become much more specialized and require
individuals that can optimize space, budget, technology, users,
faculty & students, as well as support personnel at all
levels.About the Position:The AV Systems Programmer position exists
to create, design, and maintain coding programs specifically for
Crestron control systems on GMU campuses. This includes programs
used in classrooms, conference rooms, informal learning spaces, and
other spaces around campus. The position is responsible for
* Coordinating with audiovisual engineers to provide AV systems
architecture;
* Designing and maintaining AV systems programming for
instructional environments;
* Providing programming escalation support for AV and associated
systems supported by ITS operational offices on all campuses;
* Participating in the programming, configuration, and
commissioning of AV systems installation projects and operational
maintenance;
* and maintaining Enterprise AV applications for supported
systems.Responsibilities:AV Systems Programming/Engineering
- Works closely with Learning Space Design staff and ITS AV
technicians to interpret design specifications and drawings to
develop, test, deploy, and maintain software control systems
programming, and graphical interfaces, for ITS supported
systems;
- Designs, codes, implements, and documents programming standards
to ensure supportability, network architecture compatibility with
existing systems;
- Develops and maintains an accessible repository of all related
source codes. Manages code repositories and deployments, making
modifications as needed to improve performance or meet new
requirements;
- Interfaces with leadership as well as other departments and
vendors as needed to ensure that ITS programming needs are
met;
- Configures and administers support of Crestron Fusion in an
Enterprise-level environment; and
- Provides architectural guidance for ITS Enterprise AV system
applications and associated knowledge base. Project Support
- Serves as a programming resource within the system design
process for ITS Projects;
- Develops and maintains required system code and software
configurations;
- Assists with technical verification of systems designs;
and
- Verifies system programming for new systems across all
campuses. AV Escalation Support
- Supports AV technical issues that originate from operational
support offices on all campuses;
- Serves as the final escalation point for complex AV system
issues across all campuses and remote sites, ensuring minimal
downtime and seamless operation;
- Collaborates with AV Support teams to diagnose unresolved
technical issues, determining whether software, programming, or
hardware failure is the root cause;
- Implements programming adjustments and firmware updates to
optimize AV system performance, ensuring compatibility with
existing infrastructure and user requirements;
- Conducts on-site troubleshooting and resolution, requiring
travel to remote locations when necessary to address critical AV
failures;
- Provides detailed diagnostics and recommendations to AV
Support, including hardware replacement guidance when programming
solutions are insufficient;
- Maintains thorough documentation of escalated cases,
programming modifications, and resolution strategies to improve
future troubleshooting efficiency; and
- Works closely with vendors, integrators, and internal
stakeholders to streamline AV system functionality, ensuring
reliable technology solutions for end users. Network Coordination
- Coordinates with Networking and Technical Support Services for
networking items related to the networking of AV systems for ITS;
and
- Develops and documents processes with relevant groups for
putting AV devices on the George Mason networks. Other Additional
duties as assigned Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related field or the equivalent
combination of education and experience;
- Relevant experience programming Crestron AV systems and
designing user interfaces;
- Relevant experience using Crestron Fusion to manage multiple
devices;
- Relevant experience in the troubleshooting of complex A/V
systems and technologies;
- Experience reading rack elevation, block, and signal flow
diagrams for complex integrated audiovisual systems;
- Demonstrated experience creating, designing, and maintaining
coding programs and user interfaces for control systems and
integrating a variety of manufacturer's equipment;
- Demonstrated knowledge of projection systems, transports,
switchers, control systems, portable devices of all types;
- Demonstrated proficiency troubleshooting AV issues including
sound, video, EDID tables, IP tables, software and hardware
configurations;
- Experience working with vendors and other units to coordinate,
upgrades, complete programming projects;
- Demonstrated command of written and oral communication;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team
environment; and
- Crestron advanced programming coursework or greater.Preferred
Qualifications:
- Experience working in a Higher Education environment;
- Experience with A/V over IP technologies;
- Demonstrated experience programming Crestron AV systems,
including operating code, interface design, as well as deployment
and support tools;
- Demonstrated experience configuring and administering
supporting Crestron Fusion in an Enterprise-level environment;
- Demonstrated proficiency using C#, Simple#, SIMPL Windows,
Powershell Scripting, Front-end web-development tools (HTML,
Javascript, CSS, etc.), and/or Adobe Creative Suite and
- Crestron advanced programming certification or
