Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a candidate with outstanding leadership skills to fill a Systems Engineering Manager 2 position for the Intelligence & Sensing Solutions (I&SS) organization in the Engineering and Sciences (E&S) organization. This is a dual role position encompassing both people leadership and direct technical performance.

This position will manage a team that may support multiple programs, projects and initiatives. This position will be located in Chantilly, VA.

The qualified applicant will functionally manage a team providing engineering solutions for multiple programs ranging from state-of-the-art microwave systems to Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) payloads and data links. Our engineering work includes full life-cycle programs including system design, development, system integration, hands-on build and test, field operations and maintenance, training, and production. Technical program performance will account for at least 80% of the position. As an Engineering Manager, day-to-day management responsibilities include employee communication, employee engagement, performance management, mentoring and career development, employee rewards and recognition, and resolving personnel issues. Additional responsibilities include increasing engineering competencies through strategic hiring and employee skills development, labor forecasting and execution through close collaboration with program and business management, and balancing employee needs with business goals. The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills and have success as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 8 years experience in software, hardware, or systems engineering
  • Demonstrated technical and people leadership of diverse and inclusive teams
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment where multiple projects are being developed and deployed simultaneously.
  • Must be able to work well within a team environment and adapt quickly to change.
  • Experience with full engineering life cycle
  • Time management skills and a proven ability to follow through with commitments
  • Strong written, oral communication, and organizational skills
  • TS/SCI clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Broad ISR mission area experience
  • Program management, functional management, and customer management skills
  • Familiar with Agile methodologies
  • Broad range of technical skills
  • Master's Degree in software, hardware, or systems engineering
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
  • Familiar with the SIGINT Technology Center Business
