The Vehicle Design and Innovation Department (VDID) provides space
vehicle design and analysis, rapid systems engineering processes,
and vehicle systems engineering support throughout the program
acquisition lifecycle using systems engineers, modeling
capabilities, rapid prototyping tools, and dedicated engineering
development facilities. As a member of VDID you will be developing
the next generation of innovative spacecraft designs to solve the
most challenging problems of our US Space Force, Intelligence
Community, NASA, NOAA, and commercial/international customers.Work
Model:This position will be performed 100% on-site in Chantilly,
VAWhat You'll Be Doing
- Assist engineering staff in performing concurrent engineering
studies to develop and/or assess candidate spacecraft designs that
analyze orbit parameters and consider the selection and sizing of
spacecraft subsystems such as attitude control and determination,
electrical power, communications, propulsion, structures, thermal,
etc.
- Participate with interdisciplinary teams in ongoing research or
technical programs with academic collaboration partners
- Apply standard techniques and procedures to carry out a series
of prescribed scientific and/or engineering tasks
- Develop and/or enhance spacecraft design analysis tools and
simulations
- Document study assumptions, methodology, results, and
recommendations and summarize in oral presentations to engineering
staff and management
- Training and mentorship will be providedWhat You Need to be
SuccessfulMinimum Requirements:
- Currently enrolled at an accredited college/university degree
program pursuing a Master's degree in Engineering, Physics,
Mathematics or related program
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Familiarity with and interest in the design and analysis of
spacecraft and space missions
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work on multiple tasks
effectively, either independently or as a member of a team
- Good organizational skills, problem-solving ability,
cooperativeness, initiative, and decision making
- Must possess strong organizational, time management and project
management skills
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to changing
organizational need
- Effective interpersonal skills to coordinate efforts and work
with other internal and external organizations
- Must be able to obtain a security clearance; US Citizenship
