SMSG provides specialized engineering, analysis and operations support to a variety of Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD) customers. We support the generation after next of national security-related systems based in space, in the air and on the ground. SMSG has a staff opening to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Advisory (SETA) services to an IC research and development (R&D) customer. The customer is developing the next-generation of architectures, hardware and software solutions for the IC. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Work with the customer's Program Managers to apply System Engineering principles and technical expertise to help define, acquire, deploy, manage and maintain complex satellite ground architectures. Work with the customer to explore new missions, CONOPs, and architectures to solve some of the hardest intelligence problems, conducting and presenting trade studies and proposed architectural solutions for customer. Develop, capture and decompose requirements to support program / systems acquisition. Develop and manage interface control documents. Provide support to acquisition, source selection and programmatic processes, including: contracts artifact development, tracking and source selection support; preparation for milestone and program reviews; support to program budget, schedule, risk management, configuration management, and governance briefings. Guide programs through various risk reduction test and readiness reviews. Work with the customer's Program Managers to support research and development (R&D) of future spacecraft architectures, capabilities and systems. Provide technical support as needed for execution of customer tasks. Qualifications: Bachelor degree in engineering, science, or related discipline 10 years' experience in space systems engineering and integration Experience in Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) application, processes, and practices as applied to aerospace systems including space vehicles, ground systems, and system/mission operations. Applied knowledge of industry Best Practices for SE&I as defined by IEEE and INCOSE. Applied knowledge of industry Best Practices for project management as defined by PMI. Applied knowledge of the classic Systems Engineering Project Life Cycle. Knowledge of systems engineering principles, processes and products including architecture, requirements, performance management, concept of operations, risk management, schedule management, configuration management, readiness, risk management, integration, verification, validation, and test. Good verbal and written communication skills, general leadership and coordination abilities. Ability to lead and support working groups and integrated product teams. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic, and energetic environment. Good working knowledge of MS Office applications. Must have an active TS/SCI w/Poly Desired Qualifications: Applied knowledge of industry Best Practices for SE&I as defined by IEEE and INCOSE - The International Council on Systems Engineering. Applied knowledge of industry Best Practices for project management as defined by PMI - The Project Management Institute. Applied knowledge of the classic Systems Engineering Project Life Cycle. System architecture (DoD Architecture Framework - DoDAF) and system requirements development and management. System interface requirements and system interface controls development and management. System performance baseline development and management including technical performance measures. Mission definition including user needs/requirements, mission requirements, system technical approach, system functional design, and CONOPS development. System integration, verification, validation, and test. Project planning, schedule management, readiness management, and risk management across the project life cycle. Acquisition planning, execution, and monitoring including the fundamentals of contracts, budget, cost and schedule. Spacecraft and payload systems for overhead collection and communications.
